Taking a writing-intensive course? Major final research essays due in November? Don’t pull a stressed-out all-nighter on your own the last week of classes; join a campus community of writers and academic support services at the Long Night Against Procrastination and stay up late together, where help and encouragement is available!

Throughout the evening:
• 15-20 minute workshops
• student and faculty tutors
• coffee, tea, and healthy snacks throughout the night

Prizes ~ Food ~ De-stress ~ Prepare for Exams ~ Help with Writing, Math and Physics

A conference-style event for UOIT undergraduate students to help further develop academic strategies, self-care and time management skills at a critical time of year with midterm exams and assignment deadlines approaching.

There will be workshop sessions for students in the following topics:

-Academic Writing Strategies for Term Papers
-Mindful Approach to Managing Academic Stress
-Creating a Study Plan for Finals
-Test-taking skills for Problem Solving Courses

In addition, students can work 1:1 with an Academic Specialist to get help with Writing, Math and Physics.

Students will select the workshops and 1:1 sessions they attend at sign-in at 5pm in Room G 213.

Essays are due and exams are right around the corner, but are you struggling with procrastination?

Undergrad students are invited to the Student Success Centre’s second annual Long Night Against Procrastination!

Join us on November 5 between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. in the Mills Library Learning Commons (Mills library, second floor) for a night of avoiding procrastination and getting down to business. Get started on your writing, learn how to study smart, and talk to staff and peer mentors about time management, studying, stress, and essays.

We will be holding workshops, writing groups, one-on-one help, and hourly draws throughout the night to help you work productively and avoid procrastination. Come for an hour or stay all night; it’s up to you!

Here’s the schedule of events:

8 p.m. to midnight – Meet with an Academic Skills Coach to create your term planner
8 p.m. to midnight – Meet with a Writing Assistant to get started on your writing
8:30 p.m. – Workshop: Study Smarter, Not Harder (L113)
9:30 p.m. – Workshop: Procrastination (L113)
Midnight – Pizza Break!
1 a.m. – Moonlight stroll

Long Night Against Procrastination
November 9 #LNAP15

UWaterloo’s second annual event: Long Night Against Procrastination on Monday, November 9 from 6 pm to 11 pm in the Student Life Centre.

Students will have an opportunity to get started on their writing, have experts on hand to help them with time-management, research, and writing questions. As well, students will be taught tips and strategies for managing stress, academic and extra-curricular workload.

This event includes five optional workshops:
6:15-6:45 pm – Time Management (Student Success Office)
6:45-7:15 pm –Meditation Activity (Counselling Services)
7:15-7:45 pm – Starting to Research (Library)
8:15-8:45 pm – Power Yoga (Athletics)
9:15-9:45 pm- Writing from Start to Finish (Writing Centre)
10:15-10:45 pm – Relax Yoga (Athletics)

Prizes, coffee, and snacks will be available for participants throughout the evening. As well, a furry visitor from MATES will come to mingle with students between 7:30-9:30 pm. This event is sponsored by the Writing Centre, the Library, FEDS, Athletics, Academic Integrity, Counselling & Health Services, Student Success Office, and Housing & Residence.

This all-night event gives students a safe and quiet space to complete their work at a critical time in the semester. Students will be able to work individually, and Writing & Learning Centre staff will also be on hand for assistance throughout the night.
