Many sectors have experienced loss and significant delays due to COVID-19 in the last two years. While education and student services have not been immune to significant changes and challenges, we have also seen significant positive outcomes emerge from online learning environments. In the case of NSCC, a multi-campus Community College serving divers populations, our pivot to online service delivery was fast, effective, and promoted increased access for students across the province.Writing Centres as Spaces of Allyship and Empowerment for Disabled Tutors: A Conversation on Accessible Accommodations, Disabilities, and Writing Processes

Disabled persons are conceptualized as recipients of assistance in most domains, including postsecondary education, where non-disabled persons assume the power to provide this assistance. Hiring disabled persons as writing centre consultants challenges this agent-object model. However, tensions between tutees and tutors prevail when (a) disabled consultants tutor non-disabled writers who have minimal knowledge about accessibility and disability; and (b) when accessible accommodations of disabled consultants and disabled tutees come into conflict. Drawing on our positionalities as disabled persons and allies of disability communities, we discuss how writing centres can become spaces of inclusivity and allyship between disabled and non-disabled persons.
