Salary:                         $58,378 – $75,227 + 4% in lieu of vacation

Under the direction of the Senior Advisor, Teaching and Learning, the Educational Developer, Teaching and Instruction will help advance the goals of educational development within Saint Mary’s and in the broader academic community.  This includes teaching development, promotion and facilitation of learning communities, management of peer mentorship programs for instructors, promoting and supporting training in the effective use of educational technologies, policy development and engaging with faculty in research on learning and teaching.

Duties as the Educational Developer, Teaching and Instruction include, but are not limited to:

Contributing to the development of teaching excellence by engaging in, fostering, evaluating and disseminating research on teaching and learning.
Designing and offering yearly New Faculty Orientation and ongoing New Faculty Network Program.
Consulting individually with faculty members on academic issues; course design, teaching evaluations, classroom issues, teaching portfolios, etc.
Working with faculty on development of their nomination/portfolios for teaching awards external to Saint Mary’s.
Developing and offering workshops to academic community; in addition to self, identifying other appropriate workshop leaders/facilitators/presenters (internal and external to SMU).
Supporting the work of the Senate Committee on Learning and Teaching.
Contributing to the development of teaching excellence by collaborating with the Director of the E-Learning Centre in fostering, evaluating and disseminating research on new learning tools and technology.
Collaborating with the Director of E-Learning in the design and delivery of LMS training programs.
Managing the Instructional Development Grants program and identifying faculty to participate in committee-sponsored faculty development programs, etc.
Managing support and facilitation services for teaching award candidates, e.g. AAU, 3M, etc.
Identifying and proposing new instructional/faculty development programs in consultation with Saint Mary’s academic community.  Developing and offering programs following consultation and agreement of Senior Advisor, Teaching and Learning.
Assisting the Senior Advisor, Teaching and Learning and senior leadership team in developing and maintaining strategic plan for the Global Commons Studio for Learning and Teaching.
Assisting with ongoing and new initiatives as required.
Serving on internal committees such as Senate Committee on Learning and Teaching and representing Saint Mary’s University at professional meetings and conferences, as required.
Establishing working relationships with Deans, Directors, heads of academic units, as well as faculty members.
With FGSR, developing and delivering teaching development courses and programs for graduate students.
Establishing working relationships with educational developers in Atlantic Canada, nationally and internationally while contributing actively to organizations and other post-secondary institutions engaged in related work.
Producing the faculty newsletter, Teaching and Learning at Saint Mary’s.
Assisting in development of overall CAID/CAT website content.
Engaging in applied research projects on teaching and learning related issues.
Serving as lead member on conference organizing committees for teaching and learning conferences hosted at Saint Mary’s & organized by the Global Commons Studio for Learning and Teaching, e.g. STLHE 2017, AWELL, etc.
Presenting at various regional and national conferences.
Maintaining current knowledge of the teaching and learning research literature to provide research-based recommendations to faculty members via individual consultations, workshops and written publications.
Identifying appropriate resources for the Library collection on teaching and learning.
To be the successful Educational Developer, Teaching and Learning you will have completed Master’s or doctoral degree in Education, specializing in a field related to teaching and learning in higher education combined with a minimum of five (5) years’ of related experience including group facilitation, adult education, design of professional development and project management. You also possess experience as a university instructor and trainer in instructional/educational technology.
